Description
In 1988, the president/dictator of Chile, Augosto Pinochet, was forced to hold a plebiscite (an election forced by the new constitution of Chile). The country was given the opportunity to approve or deny Pinochet another eight years as the president. Those running the campaign to oust Pinochet approached an ad executive named Rene Saavedra to help run their campaign. Saavedra became the leader of the campaign to set Chile free and depose the despot who was later tried on over 300 counts of human rights violations. This true story inspired the play Referendum by Antonio Skarmeta on which this movie was based.
